In Encaustic, the ancient process of painting with molten beeswax, I enjoy drawing on my background in calligraphy, while still working with contrasting textures. Using natural and tinted beeswax combined with oil paint and sometimes collage, transparent layers are built up and scraped back into, gradually pushing the sense of depth that is so unique to this medium. Fire or high heat is applied to fuse the wax between layers.
